Its was another great nite in the lounge Saturday nite. Once again jazz music and a great Whisky and Cigar pairing.
Tomatin 12 Single Malt Highland Scotch
Today’s whisky of choice is Tomatin 12 Scotch. It is a single malt from the highlands of Scotland. This 43%, 12 year old beauty is casked in ex bourbon barrels and then finished for more than half a year in ex Oloroso Sherry barrels.
The expression has earned many accolades since 2013 including best highland malt whisky and numerous silver, bronze, gold and double gold medals in San francisco.
On the nose, notes of pear and apple and a touch of honey. Having a soft and delicate mouth feel, the flavor is just the beginning of this slow fading “pretty” dram of dried fruit with a subtle floral backnote. The slightly oily mouthfeel let’s the flavor linger for a moment. Its gentle quality makes for a great cigar pairing.
H.c. Maduro Black
Xikar HC Black
Known for being one of the cigar industries leading supplier of accessories, we sample Xikar’s HC Maduro Black. Recieving 91 and 92 ratings from Cigar Advisor in 2008 and 2009, I am pleased to be pairing this top 25 cigar with a highly awarded whisky.
This dark, 5 x 50 robusto is wrapped in a Maduro aged Connecticut wrapper. With a slightly toothy texture, minimal veins and a well made double cap.
Constructed of Costa Rican, Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos. I expect to find a wide blend of flavor’s being that each tobacco is from a slightly different climate.
With slight earthy yet spicey notes of coffee and chocolate, this medium to full bodied cigar paired fairly well and complimented the lighter ambiance provided from the Tomatin 12.
Overall, the stick bt itself, would not be as good without the scotch to amp up some of its flavors. Together however, I enjoyed relaxing with the pairing. I think I would’ve enjoyed it better with a stronger more full bodied cigar.
